Roast, Borough Market
To counteract all of the over indulgence in December, Roast (a British inspired restaurant in Borough Market), has designed a 'mood-boosting' roast this January. Chef Stuart Cauldwell has taken the classic roast dinner to a new level, with ingredients proven to lift your mood and boost energy levels.Available until Wednesday, this delicious roast includes a whole-roasted poussin with chocolate black pudding stuffing, broccoli, beetroot, sweet potato and a red wine & chocolate gravy. Priced at £26.50, the portion size is generous, and to make it even better, Roast will donate £1 from each roast dinner sold to Crisis.I was over the moon when I was invited down to their Borough Market restaurant to review this dish. I absolutely love this area of London - the buzz of Borough Market, the wonderful smells and colours, and the fantastic produce. Roast offers great views of the market, overlooking it with large floor to ceiling glass windows. To accompany my 'mood-boosting' roast, I opted for a chorizo scotch egg with piccalilli starter, whilst Stew chose the seared scallops with fennel, ginger, grapes and candied walnuts, to start. Meanwhile, for his main, he chose the fillet of beef Wellington with rosemary roast potatoes, and boy did he choose well! The beef Wellington was incredible, cooked to perfection with a delicious flaky pastry. Possibly the best beef Wellington we've had before! Priced at £34.50, it's a little more on the expensive side, however beef Wellington's normally are, traditionally using fillet beef, the most expensive cut. The portion size was incredibly generous too, more than enough for one person. We were rather full after all that food, but I couldn't leave without tasting one of their desserts. On the dessert menu was one of my favourite puddings - apple crumble! But not just any crumble, Roast's is a Bramley apple, pear and rum soaked sultana crumble with English vanilla custard! Delicious!Roast: 5/5
