Urban Food Fest, Shoreditch
The last couple of weekends have been spent enjoy great food, fantastic alcohol and even better company! And I couldn’t be more thrilled. Of course the weather has helped massively, but having a couple of weekends in a row of relaxing with friends has been utter bliss. The same weekend as Citadel also saw me pop along to
Urban Food Fest in Shoreditch. My lovely friend Chloe, who you’ve probably heard mentioned quite a bit on here recently, invited me along to sample some of
Bodega Garzon’s wines. Urban Food Fest takes place every Saturday in an outdoor carpark on Shoreditch High Street, and is home to 15 different food trucks and stalls. On top of this, once every couple of months they have a takeover and this month’s was by Bodega Garzon, a winery located in Uruguay. Offering a selection of white and red wines, I was able to speak to some of the founding members of the brand and sample some of their delicious grapes. My favourite that I tried on the day was their Albarino – a deliciously fresh and light white wine, perfect for a hot summers day.
To accompany the drink Bodega Garzon also had a food truck specialising in food that complimented each wine. For the red wine drinker there was a tasty steak sandwich made with ciabatta bread, served with sweet red peppers, homemade chimichurri and fresh rocket. For the Albarino there was a fresh and light prawn wrap but of course in my hunger I opted for the steak rather than thinking about the wine. Chloe however had the prawn wrap and both looked, smelled and tasted absolutely delicious!
Open midday – midnight, Urban Food Fest is a great place to come during the day or evening whilst out and about in Shoreditch. Reasonably priced and showcasing a variety of different foods from around the world, there’s bound to be something for everyone.
Before heading home, after having one or two (okay, four!) glasses of wine, we also stopped off at
Nosteagia to try one of their famous bubble waffles. I picked their ‘King Chocolate’ which comprised of bubble waffle, Nutella, whipped cream, a biscuit wafer and M&Ms. It might look like a mountain of sweet, sugary goodness, but it was actually very light with the bubble waffle itself not tasting that sweet, so it was the perfect partnership with the chocolate and cream. One tip – be quick with your photo! The whipped cream immediately started melting as it was such a hot day, but luckily I got the signature Nosteagia Instagram snap just in time, with the help of the waiter who very kindly let us into the secret behind Nosteagia’s very own Instagram photos. Ha!
