The Kati Roll Company, Soho
Nestled in next to BrewDog and the Kings Arms on Poland Street, Soho,
The Kati Roll Company is a hidden gem! After having visited said bar - BrewDog - for a couple of beers after work with friends, we felt peckish and stumbled upon this Indian wrap joint.
Their slogan 'Really good food. Plain and simple.' pretty much sums them up entirely. I really couldn't have put it better myself. Priced from just £2.95 for one roll, or £5.40 for 2 rolls, The Kati Roll Company have also won the award for best cheap eat in central London (not an actual award, but it should be!).
So what is a Kati Roll I hear you ask. A Kati Roll is either a warm paratha or roti bread, wrapped around delicious meat, vegetables and cheese. Each ingredient is marinated in a fantastic mix of Indian spices giving each roll a spicy kick and a flavoursome bite.
We opted for the paratha bread as we were told that this was a far tastier option, and a little less healthy than a roti... I mean who wants to be healthy on a Friday night after a couple of beers?! I'm sure the roti tastes equally as good, but the paratha was really like nothing I'd tried before.
I chose one of their Shami Kabab Rolls - a fantastic mix of marinated lamb mince and lentil croquettes with herbs and spices. Whilst Stew chose to have two of their Chicken Tikka Rolls. The chicken had been marinated in herbs and yogurt, and was so mouthwateringly succulent. I'm glad he chose to have two so that I could have a little taster! As much as I liked my pick, I actually found I preferred Stew's, and I never normally favour the chicken option! In a twist of fate Stew found himself preferring mine so we did a little swap half way through.
To be honest, at the prices they're charging, you could afford to make a wrong choice and buy another, and still spend far less than you would anywhere else in Soho!
With limited seating and growing in popularity, this little gem can get busy. However the staff are all too accommodating, bringing an extra table out of storage for us to eat from :)
Another great accolade to this place is that it was full of people from Indian descent. In fact we were the only White British people dining in, showing true testament to how authentic and delicious the food is here.
If you find yourself in need of a quick food fix whilst shopping on Oxford Street, or perhaps you work nearby and fancy a change of scenery for lunch, I can't recommend The Kati Roll Company highly enough. They also have a branch in New York, in fact that is where the company first began. So if you're heading to NYC anytime soon, why not swing by?!
Dinner for 2 including 2 bottles of soft drink = £14.95
