Travel | Brewtown Newtown, Sydney
This week Stew and I managed to make the most of our one morning off together by walking to Newtown and enjoying brunch at
Brewtown Newtown. This cute coffee shop/cafe, located just off the main street running through Newtown, is a little gem. A couple of people had recommended them to us for brunch/lunch and after reading the rave reviews on Urbanspoon we couldn't say no.
I opted for their belgian waffle with orange ricotta, stewed fruits and caramelised figs. It was so good! The orange ricotta gave it the perfect sweet/sour balance so that it wasn't too sweet and sickly. And Stew chose the grilled black sausage, home made hashbrowns, Canadian bacon and house relish with boiled eggs. I tried a bit of his can vouch that that was just as good. If you're more of a savoury kinda brunch person I would definitely recommend it. We'll have to go again because there's so many other amazing dishes on their menu that I want to try.
They're also famous for their wonderful coffee and there was even a little Santa enjoying a cuppa hiding under Stew's cup. Cute!
On the walk back to our apartment in Ultimo we decided to walk through the grounds of The University of Sydney. This building and it's surrounding grounds are beautiful. It reminded me a lot of Oxford University. The building is so grand with a courtyard, museum, stained glass windows and neatly kept flower beds. As you walk through the building you come to Victoria Gardens which is a lovely escape from the urban city life. We're so lucky to have somewhere like this on our doorstep. I can't wait to picnic and sunbathe in the park when the weather's better.
